Do your work activities mean that you need to take regular trips in to London? Is your vehicle suitable for the new Low Emission Zone?
The Low Emission Zone was introduced in London on 8th April 2019 and is designed to encourage the most polluting diesel vehicles that drive into the Capital, to become cleaner. This new zone is in operation 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and charges cars and lighter vehicles £100 per day and lorries and heavier vehicles £200 per day.
The system works via camera’s that will scan the number plate and check the vehicle. Future plans for the scheme include even tighter emissions standards that will affect even more vehicle types and a wider zone. Alongside this in 2020, more charges and penalties will be introduced for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes.
It’s easy to check if your vehicle is affected by the low emission zone in London. The TFL have created a really useful vehicle checker, simply enter type of vehicle or number plate and it will tell you if the charge applies – https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/low-emission-zone/check-if-your-vehicle-is-affected?intcmp=2266.
Oxfordshire is a natural feed for businesses that work in London, with direct road links making journeys relatively simple. However, if you have an older vehicle that does not meet the new lower emission zone standards then you could quickly build up penalty charges making your work less profitable.
